Knowing your skin type is a very good start
It is important to remember that depending on lifestyle and other factors, your skin type may change with time. Knowing your skin type is a very good start. If you know where you are starting, you will know what to do to get the results that you want.
Normal Skin
This is the skin type we would all love to have: soft, plump and with small to medium sized pores. Normal skin has good elasticity and is smooth and firm to the touch. There are no signs of oily or dry zones.
Oily Skin
Oily skin looks shiny and has a kind of thickness to it. Pores are larger and more visible and, due to the excess oil, show a tendency toward pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. There are no dry zones present.
Dry Skin
Skin is flaky and / or feels tight on your face. However, sometimes this dryness can be brought on by not drinking enough water, certain types of heating during the winter, and exposing your skin to wind and drafts for prolonged periods. Using certain soaps or cleansing products may also lead to dry skin.
Combination Skin
Combination skin is exactly as it sounds. One part may be dry while another is oily. The term "T-zone" refers to combination skin types where the forehead, nose and chin are oily but the cheeks and the area around the eyes is either normal or dry.
A small percentage of people may have symptoms such as a pimply forehead or cheeks that are dry where all else is normal. In some cases, the skin could be normal everywhere outside the T Zone and this would still be combination skin type.
Sensitive Skin
People with sensitive skin have a lot more trouble with environmental factors since their skin is easily irritated. They are more susceptible to sunburn, have more sensitivity to cosmetics (particularly if perfumed) and may experience rashes or a burning sensation due to overexposure to sun, wind, and extreme temperature shifts.
Mature
People with mature skin have superficial lines, deep expression lines and a general loss of elasticity, particularly around the eyes. Sometimes they suffer from dryness as well.
